Objectives

Abstract:

The talk will be approached as a use case analysis. A realistic practical scenario requiring data processing in biomedical research activities will be described and the necessary steps will be explained so that all stages of data processing comply with the corresponding legal obligations. The answers will be based on the current regulations and attention will also be paid to the regulations in preparation, mainly that concerning the European health data space.
 
Short Bio:
Permanent researcher and professor in the Department of Public Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU. Principal investigator of the Excellence Research Group of the Basque University System in social and legal sciences applied to new techno-sciences (IT 1541-22). Coordinator of the Interuniversity Chair Network on Law and Human Genome.
 
She has participated as coordinator or team member in various research projects at the regional, national, and international levels on different lines of research such as legal protection of health and genetic information; genetic counselling; legal implications of the use of human biological samples and biobanks in scientific research; big data; artificial intelligence; cybersecurity; health emergencies; or international data exchange. She has served as Deputy Dean coordinator of the Faculty of Law on the Bizkaia campus of the University of the Basque Country.
 
Among others, Pilar is Member of the Research Ethics Committee of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III; Board of Directors of the Asociación Nacional de Comités de Ética de la Investigación; Spanish Node of the ethical and legal implications of the European Commission's 1 Million Genomes Initiative; Governing Body of the Farmaindustria Code of Conduct for data treatment in clinical trials; Regulatory and Ethics Work Stream of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health.
