Context And Mission
The Earth Sciences (ES) Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS), led by Prof Francisco Doblas-Reyes, performs computational research on global climate, weather, and air quality based on process-based modelling. It also enhances the societal value of the results generated by actively engaging with society, decision-makers, and businesses, as well as exchanging knowledge to develop user-oriented services.
The ES Department is looking for an internship candidate from any nationality with mixed experience in natural and communication sciences and dissemination to carry out communication and dissemination tasks that support stakeholder engagement in the framework of climate and weather modelling projects.
The selected person will closely collaborate with a diverse and international team of researchers, engineers, social scientists, and communication experts within the Department and in the context of EU-funded research projects.
Experience working in interdisciplinary and international research teams and the design and creation of scientific communication and dissemination materials and content is vital for the position. Interest in the topic of climate and weather modelling is a plus.

Key Duties
- Prepare a survey on the current knowledge of the communication services offered in the Department as well as on the communication needs of the members of the Department.
- Analyze the responses obtained in the survey and conclude what the Department's strengths are in terms of communication and what are the possible points to improve.
- Attend meetings with the leaders of the Department's groups to understand what research is carried out in each group, what the strategic projects are and what the communication needs of each group are.
- Mapping the stakeholders/audiences related to climate and weather research that are of interest to reach and widen the network of leading actors.
- Explore new communication opportunities to take into account to reach those stakeholders/audiences that we are not currently reaching.
- Mapping the relevant events that would be interesting to attend (as a Department).
- Draft the first version of the Department's Strategic Communication Plan taking into account the objectives, needs and currently available means.
- Support the Department's communication team in specific tasks.
Requirements

Education
- MSc in science communication, journalism or natural sciences.

Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience in communication strategies and/or stakeholder engagement will be valued.
- Experience managing science communication, dissemination and engagement activities in national and EU-funded projects will be valued.

Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Previous knowledge of climate and weather modelling will be valued.
- Knowledge of impact assessment methods for communication and dissemination activities will be valued.

Competences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish, including technical writing.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment within an interdisciplinary and international team.
- Self-motivation and enthusiasm about the tasks to be performed with a strong sense of curiosity.
- Good public speaking skills.
- Proactivity, creativity, and a high sense of responsibility.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritise them effectively in a dynamic environment.
Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department
- We offer a part-time contract (20h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance
- Duration: 6 months
- Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
