Context And Mission
The Computational Applications in Science and Engineering department (CASE) works with industry and academia developing software and applications that leverage the power of High Performance Computing to solve real problems. In
particular, a large line of research and development is focused on the energy industries. Inside the CASE department works the Data Analytics and Visualization group, whose role is to develop and apply advanced statistical and determinist
models to extract valuable information from large data sets, and convert them into visual and useful tools and representations.
We are looking for a user experience designer and information designer to lead the design team at the group, research user requirements, conceptualize applications, identify and design appropriate data visualizations, and lead the general design of all the applications in the group projects. The position will work mainly in the lines of research on interactive data visualization and art and science driven innovation, both with strong collaboration with the data science focused research lines.

Key Duties
- Interact with domain specialists (end users and clients) to understand their problems and the available data in order to formulate useful solutions
- Lead the UI and data visualization design team, and collaborate with the development team and data science researchers to ensure the final products incorporate all the stakeholders' requirements
- Employ user centred design methods to create applications using data visualizations and interactivity
- Support and collaborate in obtaining funding and opening new projects
Requirements

Education
- Bachelor (licenciatura), or Master or equivalent on digital product design, information design, or user experience design.

Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Essential strong experience (5+ years) in data visualization techniques and software
- Strong experience (5+ years) in user experience methods and techniques, specially applied to information and big data contexts
- Experience (2+ years) leading an information design team in coordination with upstream (scientists) and downstream (developers) collaborations
- Strong experience (5+ years) creating interfaces, products, and projects solely based around data and data visualization, in fields involving AI and machine learning applied to industry,
- Experience (3+ years) with UI/UX and data viz software: Figma, XD, Tableau, Superset

Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Strong expertise on project management, in public funded projects (HE) and private (with industry and administration)

Competences
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deal with different stakeholders and understand their needs
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish, specially at the level of producing documentation (reports, white papers).
- Strong initiative to carry on a multidisciplinary research project that requires talking to people on many different fields and learning new skills on the job
- Artistic experience or education
Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the CASE Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
- Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
- Starting date: 1/12/2024
