Biography
Chloe Fletcher is a PhD candidate in the Global Health Resilience group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, enrolled within the Biomedicine PhD programme at the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences, Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Her research focuses on the development of statistical models to forecast outbreaks of climate-sensitive infectious diseases, such as dengue and leptospirosis, across southern Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. This research seeks to evaluate what value tailored and novel datasets add to the outbreak prediction of infectious diseases.
Chloe obtained an MSc in Environmental Modelling at University College London in 2018, where she achieved the UCL Dean’s List award for outstanding academic performance. Her thesis involved developing quality assurance protocols in terrestrial LiDAR scanning for biomass estimation and forest canopy assessment. She also completed a BSc in Mathematics from University College London in 2015. Prior to joining the BSC, Chloe was the Sustainability Data Scientist at BBC Research & Development, UK, from 2019 to 2022, where she developed mathematical models to quantify the environmental impact of BBC services and the media industry. She also worked at the Institution of Environmental Sciences, UK, from 2015 to 2019.
Within the Global Health Resilience group, Chloe is a collaborator on several funded projects: HARMONIZE, IDAlert, IDExtremes and E4Warning. She also contributes to the Caribbean Public Health Agency initiative to develop climate-integrated disease early warning systems within the Caribbean.
