The EMiT (EMerging Technology) conference 2016 will be held on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd June 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. It brings together experts from all areas of computing to examine how to best take advantage of the changing landscape of computer hardware and overcome research barriers for fields such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD), computational mechanics, life sciences, energy efficiency and financial modelling. Building on the successes of EMiT 2014 and EMiT 2015, EMiT 2016 aims to continue to provide a platform for the cutting edge in computing technologies and techniques, as well as broaden the conference’s international reach.
For the first time, the EMiT16 conference will take place outside of the UK and is being hosted by the European project Mont-Blanc and held near the premises of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. The event will take place at the Aula Master room in the A3 building of the North Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). This year’s event will begin with a brief introduction from the European Commission officer of DG Connect, Panagiotis Tsarchopoulos. The programme also include international keynote presentations from scientists and researchers from academia and industry, including Prof. Lorena Barba, George Washington University, USA; Chris Adeniyi-Jones, ARM; Dr Michele Weiland, ADEPT/EPCC; Dr William Sawyer, Exa2Green/Swiss National Supercomputing Centre; and Estela Suarez, DEEP-ER/Jülich Supercomputing Centre. The standard registration cost for EMiT 2016 is €100 with a reduced student rate of €75. Registration includes all refreshments during both days, the opportunity to visit both the MareNostrum supercomputer and the Mont-Blanc prototype located at the Torre Girona chapel and a conference dinner on the first evening. The 2016 EMiT conference is being organised by a diverse and international group of academics and researchers, as well as experts in the organization of academic events: Michael Bane of High End Compute chairs the EMiT conference Organisation and Programme Committee (OPC). The other OPC members are: Benedict Rogers, David Topping, Irfan Alibay and Julie Samson of the University of Manchester; Stephen Longshaw and David Emerson of the Scientific Computing Department of the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC); and Filippo Mantovani and Renata Giménez of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center as local hosts .
