Objectives
MNHack is an opportunity for HPC application developers and users to deploy, test, port, and optimize their codes on cutting-edge platforms provided by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). Unlike traditional competitive hackathons, MNHack is a non-competitive, hands-on event designed to help users improve their applications with the support of world-class mentors. This edition introduces two specialized non-simultaneous tracks, allowing participants to choose the environment that best suits their goals (or both):
Track 1: MN5. from 13 to 15 October, 2025
Participants will gain access to Europe’s newest pre-exascale supercomputer, Marenostrum 5, including both general-purpose and accelerated computing resources. This track is ideal for those looking to:
- Deploy and scale up HPC applications
- Optimize performance on cutting-edge CPU/GPU hardware
- Analyze behavior using BSC tools such as Extrae, Paraver, and Dimemas
- Leverage programming models like MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, OpenACC, and HIP
Track 2: RISC-V, from 16 to 17 October, 2025
This track is dedicated to exploring and optimizing HPC applications on RISC-V-based platforms, offering a hands-on experience with an open hardware architecture that is gaining traction in the HPC space. Participants can:
- Port and test their applications on RISC-V hardware
- Explore low-level performance tuning opportunities
- Experiment with custom toolchains and runtime systems
- Collaborate on open-source ecosystem development
Participants in both tracks will receive help based on their needs, including programming models, tools, hardware platforms, and dev-ops. Experts from BSC will be available to provide guidance throughout the hackathon. You can participate individually or in a team of up to 4 people. You just need an HPC application and to be ready to have a whale of a time.
