Objectives
The Severo Ochoa Mobility Program seeks to boost research activities taking place in specific institutional and organizational environments in which a scientific community works closely together to achieve common objectives, facilitating interaction among its members and at the same time showing a high degree of openness to international collaboration. It is aimed at existing centres and units that perform cutting-edge fundamental research and are among the world's best in their respective areas. The impact and international scientific leadership of these centres and units is essential for their recognition.
The Severo Ochoa Mobility Program provides financial support for outgoing mobility for BSC staff and incoming mobility of researchers of up to a maximum of € 2000 per person. The mobility grants are given to support collaborative research and exchanges between institutions.
Applicable rules for funding: The Severo Ochoa (SO) program at BSC provides financial support for outgoing mobility for BSC staff and incoming mobility of researchers. The 18th call is considering grants of up to € 2000 per person. The mobility grants are given to support collaborative research between institutions. The visits have to be in-line with the SO BSC objectives.
Scope: This call welcomes applications from all BSC departments, for mobility and exchange.
- Incoming Mobility for visits and exchange of researchers on collaboration visits to BSC research groups. Proposals are welcome for a period of exchange of 2 weeks to 1 month. The hosting research group has to apply on behalf of their visitors for an Incoming Mobility Grant:

- Outgoing Mobility for visits and exchange of BSC staff to other research Institutions. Proposals are welcome for at least 1 month period of exchange and a maximun of 3 months. Please see the application form for outgoing mobility for the required information and documents:
Requirements
Evaluation Criteria
Criteria
- Clear impact potential for BSC, e.g. capacity to develop further collaboration and exchange with the home institution of the visitor (incoming) /with the hosting research group (outgoing)
- Academic credentials and research excellence of the candidate
- Research excellence of the hosting institution (outgoing)
- Alignment with the BSC strategic research lines and the Severo Ochoa Project objectives. The Severo Ochoa objectives are to enable more interdepartmental collaboration in hardware/software co-design of full stack solutions. As part of the Laboratory for Open Computer Architecture, BSC leverages the RISC-V Instruction Set Architecture to enable full system co-design based on critical current and future HPC applications with the aim of developing the entire RISC-V HPC ecosystem.
- Preference will be given to proposals in which a female researcher is visiting or outgoing
Procedures
- The on-time submitted proposals will be examined by the Selection Committee. If necessary, the committee may request more information from the candidates or ask the department directors to prioritize the applications.
- The programme is developed as a “mobility grant”. The ultimate goal is to support and encourage mobility, thus it is not a scholarship. Consequently, the grant does not necessarily cover 100% of the total expenses. The committee is bound by the National Funded Project´s travel and reimbursement regulations (BOE) and by the BSC internal rules in view of which visiting researchers can be reimbursed fully for travel, flights and ground transport at economy class.
- All candidates will be contacted with the outcome of their application.
- Procedural Note
