Abstract
The OceanPrediction Decade Collaborative Centre (OceanPrediction DCC), hosted by Mercator Ocean International, is a cross-cutting structure working at the global scale to promote collaboration between Decade Actions and key actors to achieve a predicted Ocean in the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, coordinated by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC/UNESCO). It is based on two pillars: a) Global Community, serving as a backbone collaboration structure and giving a collective voice to the ocean prediction community. This community is organized in Regional Teams and around a communication and collaboration hub, focusing and optimizing individual efforts on achieving the collective goals of the Ocean Decade related to Ocean Forecasting, and b) Global Technical Framework, Working on the co-design and implementation, in collaboration with Ocean Decade actions and other relevant actors, of a new scenario for ocean forecasting based on interoperability and a shared architecture to ‘deliver as one’, leveraging the coming innovations derived from the digital twining concept. This presentation will explain this initiative and the already achieved milestones.
Dr. Enrique Alvarez Fanjul is the Technical Coordinator of the OceanPrediction Decade Collaborative Center, at Mercator Ocean International.
