The Catalan Minister Àngels Chacon visits the MareNostrum supercomputer to present the guidelines for the new 2020-2029 agreement

The Catalan government will contribute 59 million euros to BSC under the agreement with the Spanish Government and the UPC for the period 2020-2029.

The Minister of Business and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Àngels Chacón, has visited the MareNostrum supercomputer today and explained to the centre's directors the 2020-2029 agreement to guarantee the financing of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) . This agreement provides for an investment of 59 million euros from the Generalitat. The agreement is subscribed by the other partners of BSC, the Spanih Goverment and UPC, and has yet to be ratified.

According to Chacón, "we put on the table an agreement that guarantees the future of BSC and the MareNostrum 5 supercomputer project. Together, we are building the most important scientific-technical infrastructure in the country."

The Minister also highlighted the work done by the BSC during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The director of BSC, Mateo Valero, explains the research that is being done at th BSC related to COVID-19 and highlights the importance of a centre like this for its large computing and storage capabilities.

The event was attended by the Secretary of Universities and Research of the Generalitat, Francesc Xavier Grau, and the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Francesc Torres.
