The Australian festival has awarded the documentary produced by BSC in the framework of CompBioMed Centre of Excellence.
The SCINEMA International Science Film Festival has awarded the documentary Virtual Humans for the Technical Merit as they consider that “this film is a technically stunning example of the power and versatility of supercomputers, helping us see our body in ways we never have before”. Virtual Humans competed against over 1500 entries to the festival.
Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) researcher Fernando Cucchietti, one of the producers of the documentary: “We are very happy and excited about this recognition. It was the first time we competed in this festival, and we are delighted to be able to tell the story of CompBioMed's efforts through Virtual Humans.”
The winning films will be shown exclusively at Festival premiere screenings in Palace Cinemas across Australia from 31 May-21 June 2018.
Virtual Humans is a short documentary produced by BSC researchers Guillermo Marin and Fernando Cucchietti in the framework of CompBioMed H2020 Centre of Excellence in Computational Biomedicine, led by University College London. The documentary describes the achievements and goals of researchers trying to recreate a human inside a computer. Through accurate scientific data visualizations, Virtual Humans gives us a glimpse of this truly personalised medicine of the near future, and its long term implications for our healthcare and our lifestyle.
