The exhibition ‘Código y algoritmos. Sentido en un mundo calculado’, organised by the Telefónica Foundation, will be on display from this Friday at the iMAL Art Center for Digital Cultures & Technology in Brussels. Organised by the Fundación Telefónica, the showcase includes an audiovisual work produced by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) that illustrates how the processing of huge amounts of data is accelerating scientific research.
Through interactive installations by twelve artists, the exhibition traces a journey through different areas in which algorithms impact our society: the importance of their neutrality and efficiency, the risks of algorithmic bias, tools to protect data privacy, the link between humans and artificial intelligence, and their contribution to finding solutions that would otherwise take years to solve or decipher.
The BSC's contribution shows how, thanks to the ability of supercomputing to numerically simulate complex realities in order to study them, algorithms and artificial intelligence can accelerate the generation of knowledge with the aim of facilitating progress in a wide range of fields, from knowing the effects of a medicine without administering it to anticipating climate change.
The audiovisual piece produced by the BSC, in collaboration with the Telefónica Foundation, presents different research projects of the centre on air quality, automatic translation of sign language and digital twins of the human body, which show how simulation is a powerful tool to better understand the world around us.
Organised on the occasion of the Spanish Presidency of the EU and with the support of the Spanish Embassy in Belgium, 'Código y algoritmos' will be on display in Brussels from 17 November 2023 to 18 February 2024. It had previously been on display at the Espacio Fundación Telefónica, in Madrid, between October 2022 and April of this year.
