More than 19,800 people visited the supercomputer during the past year and more than 5,500 correspond to visits aimed at primary schools to bring technology to younger people.
2019 closed with an absolute record number of both visits and visitors to the MareNostrum supercomputer surpassing 19,800 people, which represents an increase of more than 5,700 compared to the previous year, when a record of visits was already reached. In 2019, there have been more than 1,300 guided visits: almost 400 visits to high schools, more than 400 groups of individuals, 87 to companies and 75 touniversities, among other categories.
It should be noted that during 2019 more than 5,500 primary school students from all over Catalonia visited the supercomputer in the framework of the "We are young women researchers" initiative launched in 2018 with the collaboration of the Barcelona City Council. This project aims to bring technology to the younger people, with special emphasis on the role of women. During the tours, students are constantly surrounded by female role models to convey the message that technology is also for women. These good attendance data regarding primary visits consolidate this initiative in its second year in operation and reaffirms the desire of the center to open this emblematic installation to the public, in this case to the youngest.
