The UPC delivers today the UPC Awards for the Valorisation of Research and the Quality of University Management, during the inauguration of the academic year.
Mitiga Solutions, spin-off participated by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and the UPC, has received a special mention of the jury in the category for the best technology-based company or spin-off in the UPC Awards of Valuation of Research and the Quality of University Management, granted by the Social Council. The company, promoted by the director of the BSC CASE department, José María Cela, markets software for predicting the impact of atmospheric disasters on air traffic management in emergency situations that involve atmospheric dispersion of particles, such as volcanic ashes. The technology has been developed in research projects of the Department of CASE and is the result of the doctoral thesis of the BSC researcher Alex Martí. Cela has been in charge of collecting this award.
The UPC Research Valorisation Award of the Social Council of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC), which has reached the twelfth edition this year, distinguishes the work done by the University's research groups in three modalities: better technology transfer project, best invention or patent for application in the market, and best technology-based or spin-off company.
