Minister Pedro Duque visits BSC

The directors of the centre have presented BSC’s research projects and future challenges.

The minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Pedro Duque, has visited today the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC) to learn about the research being done, as well as the future challenges that the Center faces. The minister has been accompanied by the secretary general for Scientific Policy Coordination and president of the Board of Trustees of the BSC, Rafael Rodrigo, secretary general of universities, José Manuel Pingarrón, Montserrat Garcia Llovera, sub delegate of the government in Catalonia, Joan Gómez Pallarès, director general of Research of the Generalitat of Catalonia, and the UPC dean, Francesc Torres.

The directors of the different departments of the BSC, led by the director, Mateo Valero, and Josep M. Martorell, its associate director, have been in charge of presenting the Center and the research projects that are being carried out. Also present in the visit were José María Cela, CASE director, Francisco J. Doblas-Reyes, director of Earth Sciences, and Eduard Ayguadé, associate director of Computer Sciences.

After the presentation the delegation has visited both the MareNostrum 4 supercomputer and the construction site of the new corporative building of the BSC.
