CAPSUL-IA: driving the adoption of AI in the industrial sector

15 March 2024

The project holds its kick-off meeting at the facilities of BSC, which leads the academic consortium of an initiative that addresses the challenges of companies to use artificial intelligence solutions

The CAPSUL-IA project, which seeks to facilitate the industrial adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by offering AI solutions already preconfigured and integrated with a wide variety of applications, held its kick-off meeting on February 29 at the facilities of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – National Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS).

The project is organized in an industrial consortium (led by GTD Science, Infrastructures & Robotics and also participated by PAL Robotics, Solver Intelligent Analytics and ZYLK) and an academic consortium led by the BSC and participated by Ikerlan.

CAPSUL-IA addresses the challenges many industries face when adopting AI, such as selecting appropriate AI models, managing complex data, and determining affordable computing platforms. The use of the processes, techniques, tools, and platforms proposed by the project aims to contribute to democratizing the adoption of AI, especially in those environments in which AI intrinsic complexity could still slow down its adoption.

To that end, the project proposes an AI encapsulation system, through AI models adapted to various cases, whose ultimate purpose is to break down any type of barrier associated with complexity, adoption cost and time, to which certain industrial sectors are especially sensitive.

During the kick-off meeting, consortium members discussed the first steps of the project, related to requirements definition and platform selection. CAPSUL-IA has a duration of 4 years (January 2024 - December 2027) during which it will try to promote the use of a technology, AI, with a direct and decisive impact on the quality of life of people and the achievement of social, environmental, and economic objectives.
