The UdG will award him the highest recognition for his contribution to artificial intelligence technologies
The University of Girona (UdG) will award the distinction of doctor honoris causa to the researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) and professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) Ulises Cortés García (Mexico City, 1960).
The academic investiture session, which will be chaired by Rector Quim Salvi, will take place in the Aula Magna Modest Prats on 14 December 2023. Professor Albert Sabater, director of the Chair of Ethics in Artificial Intelligence of Catalonia, will be the sponsor and will read the eulogy of his merits.
The UdG awards the highest recognition to Ulises Cortés for his contribution to artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and for being a reference for the sum of intelligences, a concept on which the UdG2030 Strategic Plan of the university pivots.
Dr. Ulises Cortés is a researcher in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science. Professor and researcher at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) since 2006, he works in various areas of AI, including knowledge acquisition and concept formation in knowledge-based systems, as well as in machine learning and autonomous intelligent agents.
Cortés is a world leader in the field of Environmental Decision Support Systems (EDSS) who has collaborated closely with research groups at the UdG. He has not only developed the theoretical concepts but has also designed and implemented a tool with real application, pursuing social benefit in areas such as the environment or assistive technologies.
He currently carries out his research activity at the BSC as scientific coordinator of the High Performance Artificial Intelligence Group. Throughout his career, he has participated in more than 50 research projects, half of them with international funding, and has published 70 articles in indexed scientific-technical journals, 5 books, and has made more than 150 communications to international conferences.
