Context And Mission
Within the Life Sciences Department, we are looking for a junior research engineer RE1 to work with the Social Link Analytics unit. The Social Link Analytics unit is dedicated to analyzing data related to biology and medicine, aiming to evaluate their impact on scientific advancement in society. The main areas of activity of the unit include:
- Leading the Bioinfo4Women programme of the Life Department.
- Research on sex and gender biases in health and Artificial Intelligence.
- Study the spread of disinformation in the media and on social networks, tracking its propagation and regarding the evolution of narratives. This involves applying network analysis techniques, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and language models (LLMs).
- Conducting a comprehensive evaluation of AI applications in the health sector, considering technical, human, and social dimensions.
In this context the successful candidate will be tasked to help in the development of the LLMs integration within the current projects and help to design suitable solutions for generating, processing and analysing data.

Key Duties
- Analyse ML training datasets to identify biases.
- Support coordination of the research line in the frame of the Bioinfo4Women programme of the Life Department
- Dissemination of results through data visualisations, scientific articles, blogs, and online media posts
Requirements
- Education
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Architectures, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Physics, or similar.
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Architectures, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Physics, or similar, or in the process of presenting the TFM.
- Or higher education (FPII)
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience in Python programming language
- Experience in AI development, and Data Analysis
- Experience in web programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Javascript, HTML, CSS, WordPress)
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
- Experience with Python data tools (e.g., Pandas, Numpy, Jupyter Notebooks, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib/Seaborn) to obtain, curate, clean, analyze, and visualization of information
- Minimal experience with Linux-based environment is also appreciated
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Good communication skills, including proficiency in Spanish and English (both written and spoken). Catalan language skills are also appreciated.

- Ability to understand scientific literature and software documentation.
- Ability to work in a team and in a multicultural environment.
Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: until 31/12/2025
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
- Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
