Context And Mission

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center’ Data Visualization and Analytics group is looking for a data scientist.

The group has 5 research lines -Industrial Data Science, Urban Data Science, Interactive Data Visualization, Data Storytelling, and Arts+Science Driven Innovation. The goal of this position is to work as data scientist across all of the lines, as most projects include a combination of skills. In particular, to help gather, clean, and understand data as it comes into the project, creating EDA dashboards, as well as some initial modelling and evaluation metric design.

The candidate will join the currently ongoing projects on advanced manufacturing and factory operation, digital services, energy efficiency, urban planning, digital democracy, as well as science dissemination. The candidate will also work on procuring funding for future projects.

Key Duties

  • Data exploration and preparation.
  • Talking to end users and domain experts to capture the key components of a problem.
  • Exploratory modeling (architecture design, pipeline design).
  • Visualization and presentation of preliminary results.
  • Advise younger researchers and engineers in the group.
  • Help write reports, deliverables, and research proposals.

Requirements

  • Education
    • Masters or PhD Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or technoogy related field.
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Experience with AI and advanced statistical models applied to science and industry
    • Experience working on applied data science projects.
    • Strong ML and AI programming experience, preferably in Python
    • Strong initiative to carry on research and development independently.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in Spanish and other European languages would be advantageous.
    • Experience on some of the application fields of the group’s projects
  • Competences
    • Ability to work in a team and in a multi-cultural environment.
    • Excellent communication skills, especially for producing documentation (reports, manuals, papers).

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the CASE Department
  • We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
  • Starting date: As soon as possible
