Context And Mission
The Earth System Services Group (ESS) within the Earth Sciences Department aims to link science and society by developing climate and air quality services. These services are tailored to the needs of stakeholders in different socio-economic sectors of society such as renewable energies, agriculture, city planners or civil society.
The group actively works in identifying user needs; quantifying the impact of weather, climate, aerosols and gaseous pollutants; developing user-centered services; and fostering the dissemination of the services, the technology and the knowledge. To do so, we have an interdisciplinary group with climate and air quality researchers, science communication experts, social scientists and an environmental economist. This diversity in the team can inform research lines, do applied research, and ensure knowledge and technology transfer.
The ESS group is looking for a Science communication expert from any nationality to co-lead the Knowledge and Integration Team (KIT). The candidate will take part in the knowledge transfer activities of the group with a focus on air quality and climate. Apart from performing science outreach, the candidate is expected to interact with target users, understand their information needs and expectations, create appropriate communication material, and manage and provide expert communication advice for the improvement of current operational services For that, the candidate will be in close contact with climate scientists and advanced users of climate information.
The successful candidate is expected to learn about the research topics of the projects, interact with the data visualization team to guide the re-design of operational services, plan and carry out communication and user engagement activities at the international level, and promote clustering activities between different projects. Working experience in multidisciplinary and international teams is key for the position.
The selected candidate will benefit from advanced applied research training and BSC-CNS staff benefits (good and highly stimulating working environment, ticket restaurant, private health insurance, etc.).
