Context And Mission

The Computer Sciences (CS) department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center aims at carrying out research and development to influence the way computing machines are built, programmed, and used. The Workflows and Distributed Computing group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center aims at carrying out research on programming models for distributed computing. More specifically, this group is contributing to the ICOS project with the parallel programming model PyCOMPSs/COMPSs (compss.bsc.es). PyCOMPSs/COMPSs is a task-based, parallel programming model offered to the project applications as a means to execute them in distributed environments. For this research, the group is looking for a researcher (R3) to manage the research and developments for the COMPSs Agenst runtime, specially for highly distributed environments (edge-to-cloud or edge-to-HPC) who will be leading all the activities related to this area. The researcher will also be contributing to the COLMENA project, driving the research of a bio-inspired research in the area of edge-to-cloud computing.

  • Lead in the COMPSs Agents runtime
  • Design and development of COMPSs runtime extensions
  • Contribution to ICOS activities in the group
  • Design a development in the COLMENA project

Requirements

  • Education
    • PhD in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Knowledge and experience in the use of Java programming languages
    • Knowledge in a parallel programming models (e.g. OpenMP, MPI, CUDA, OpenCL, etc)
    • Good English Level, spoken and written
    • Expertise in task-based parallel programming models
    • Experience in EU funded projects
    • Experience in edge-to-cloud platforms
  • Competences
    • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
    • Working independently and within a team
    • Ability to take their own initiatives, prioritize tasks and work under set deadlines
    • Critical analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of new and complex ideas

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
  • We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
  • Starting date: 01/01/2025
