Context And Mission
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is looking for a coordinator of the 1st level User support team to join the user support group inside the BSC-CNS's Operations Department.
The position will be responsible for the training and coordination of the 1st level support team and will work in the resolution of the 2nd level support tickets generated by the HPC users working in the BSC supercomputers. Also, the position will have an important role in European and national projects to coordinate different tasks and cooperate with other centres and work together in EU infrastructures to reinforce the use of HPC and Big Data among the EU researchers.
The 1st level support team is in charge of the contact with the users and the resolution of the 1st level requests. The team is also responsible to fulfill the SLAs related to the 1st level user support service for example the time to respond, time to reply and level of user satisfaction.

Key Duties
- Coordination of the 1st level support team
- Porting and optimization of various scientific application codes to multiple supercomputing platforms
- Performance analysis and benchmarking of applications.
- Support to researchers within their work field: (Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, ...
- Addressing scientific user issues as they are encountered as users pursue HPC results on the supercomputing resources available.
- Collaborating with other functional groups within the centre on technical matters related to supporting scientific application work.
- Participating in European e-infrastructures projects like EUDAT, PRACE and HBP.
- Providing the required tools and reports to fulfil the SLAs and demonstrate it.
Requirements
- Education
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Physics, or a related field is required, and a PhD in a similar discipline would be an added advantage.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- at least 3 years of experience in providing HPC user support in a multidisciplinary environment like BSC.
- Experience in working with codes programmed in Fortran, C, MPI, OpenMP, and other parallel methods
- Experience with the use of performance analysis tools, compiler analysis tools, and debuggers
- Experience developing, debugging, maintaining, supporting, and using application software
- A thorough understanding of high-performance computing architectures.
- Experience with non-relation databases and cloud environments

- Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to work within a team to complete tasks on schedule.
- Experience coordinating the work of other parts of the team.

- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume, deadline-driven environment.

Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the Operations Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Permanent
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
- Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
- Starting date: ASAP
