Context And Mission

The High Performance Artificial Intelligence (HPAI) group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is looking for a dedicated Activity Leader. This group focuses on integrating AI research with HPC tools and infrastructure. The primary goal of this position is to lead and coordinate the group's scientific research, manage projects, mentor students, and establish and maintain collaborations with industry partners.

Key Duties

  • Achieve excellence in AI research, ensuring high-quality publications in top conferences and journals.
  • Design and implement the short, mid, and long-term research strategy for the group.
  • Finding and implementing collaborations with companies
  • Organize and participate in dissemination activities to promote the group's research findings.
  • Direct and mentor students, guiding them through master's and PhD theses.

Requirements

  • Education
    • PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Expertise in deep learning frameworks (e.g., Caffe, TensorFlow, Keras).
    • Experience with large-scale graph analytics tasks and frameworks (e.g., Link Prediction, Community Detection, igraph, NetworkX).
    • Proficient in programming languages such as C++, Java, and Python.
    • 3+ years of Postdoc experience in a research group
    • 5+ years of experience in a research group. Experience as a group leader is required.
    • Good scientific record (publications in top AI Journals and conferences)
    • Experience with BSC tools (PyCOMPSs, Dataclay, Hecuba, etc.)
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Teaching experience in Deep Learning
    • Teaching experience in directing/co-directing master’s and PhD theses
    • Background in deep learning embeddings (e.g., transfer learning, multimodal embeddings).
    • Experience in Medical and/or Environmental applications
    • Experience as a Principal Investigator (PI) in EU and/or competitive research projects.
    • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Competences
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
    • Strong initiative, teamwork abilities, and capability to build strong relationships with other research groups.
    • The ability to think critically and address challenges in research and group leading.
    • The ability to present research findings clearly and engagingly is crucial for public engagement and collaboration.

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
