Context And Mission
The Computational Genomics group, led by ICREA professor Toni Gabaldón, is looking for a highly motivated junior full-stack software engineer to develop and maintain tools and databases required in the context of the PROLIVE project (PLEC2023-010225, MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033). The project is centered on the development of an efficient platforms to analyze NGS data from diverse samples, including whole genome shotgun, metabarcoding, and metagenomics samples. The candidate will join a dynamic research group within the Life Sciences department. The researcher will work in a sophisticated HPC environment and will have access to systems and computational infrastructures. Priority will be given to highly motivated and proactive candidates with a bioinformatics-related background and with the ambition to develop their career in the field of computational genomics.
Key Duties
- Maintaining both back-end and front-end codebases of cgenomics
- Designing and developing new software features for cgenomics tools
- Managing DevOps operations related to software deployment and maintenance across various computing infrastructures
- Support other researchers in programming or HPC-related tasks
- Report to the group and team leaders
Requirements
- Education
- Professional degree in bioinformatics, programming, web applications, or related disciplines
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Proficiency in web development using CSS, HTML, Bootstrap, and similar technologies.
- Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Python, Java, C, or similar.
- Proficiency with database technologies such as MariaDB or other relational databases.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Singularity.
- Knowledge of HPC usage and DevOps.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Competences
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
- Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
- Starting date: 01/07/2024
