Taking place on 21-23 January in Valencia, this year’s HiPEAC conference puts the future of computing systems under the spotlight, at a time when all aspects of the computing stack are being re-evaluated in light of the inevitable end of Moore’s Law. Three plenary keynote talks, 26 workshops and 17 tutorials complement the main paper track and will cover the full compute continuum.
Researchers from Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) form a core part of the HiPEAC network, which numbers around 2,000 experts, and once again are playing a significant part in this major international event.

Monday, 21 January
- Eduardo Quiñones will give a keynote talk at the PARMA-DITAM workshop, which focuses on multicore and manycore architectures
- WRC'2019: Workshop on Reconfigurable Computing will feature a presentation by Paul Carpenter on the role of reconfigurable computing in exascale systems, focusing on the use of BSC’s flagship programming model, OmpSs, for field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs)
- Heterogeneity Alliance, on the road: Jorge Ejarque will present ‘A task-based programming model for programming distributed heterogeneous computing platforms’
- EuroExaScale: Petar Radojkovic will present ‘Towards Resilient HPC Systems: A Blueprint’ during this workshop
- MULTIPROG: Workshop on Programmability and Architectures for Heterogeneous Multicores: : Luc Jaulmes will discuss memory vulnerability, while Paul Carpenter will present a paper on the effects of memory capacity sharing on HPC performance
Tuesday, 22 January
· MCS: 7th International Workshop on Mixed Criticality Systems (MCS): Francisco J. Cazorla and Jaume Abella will present during this workshop
· Xavier Salazar is hosting the STEM Student Day, introducing and engineering students to HiPEAC
· The Vision and roadmaps session will feature the Eurolab4HPC roadmap, coauthored by Paul Carpenter
Wednesday, 23 January
- Xavier Martorell, Xavier Teruel are organising a tutorial named HPP-OmpSs: Heterogeneous Parallel Programming with OmpSs
- As part of the LEGaTO project, Leonardo Bautista and Osman Unsal organised the MCESS: Easy and Efficient Multilevel Checkpointing for Extreme Scale Systems tutorial, led by Konstantinos Parasyris.
HiPEAC19 will also once again feature HiPEAC’s tailored recruitment support provided by BSC’s Xavier Salazar, helping companies find candidates with the specialist skills to deliver the computing systems of the future.

Since 2004, the HiPEAC (High Performance and Embedded Architecture and Compilation) project has provided a hub for European researchers in computing systems; today, its network, the biggest of its kind in the world, numbers around 2000 specialists.
