IEEE recognizes Mateo Valero?s work in Computer Architecture with the Harry Goode AwardIn May 2011, the IEEE Computer Society honored Prof. Mateo Valero in a ceremony recognizing his contribution to vector, out-of-order, multithread and VLIW processor architectures. A video describing Prof. Mateo Valero?s career was recorded for the ceremony and is now available on the BSC website.The Harry Goode Award is one of the most prestigious in the area of computer science and Prof. Valero is the first Spanish scientist to have received the award. The first scientist to receive this award in 1964 was Howard Aiken, the original conceptual designer behind IBM?s Harvard Mark I. Additional award recipients include: George Stibitz and Konrad Zuse (1965), John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert (1966), Maurice Vincent Wilkes (1968), Seymour Cray (1972), Edsger Dijkstra (1974), C.A.R. Hoare (1981) and Gene Amdahl (1983).
