Summary
Our work applies computational methodologies to the management, interpretation, and dissemination of cultural collections, artifacts and historical data. Key areas of research include the development of virtual exhibitions, the integration of digital tools to enrich museum collections, and the implementation of data-driven approaches for conservation, scholarly research and visitor engagement. By harnessing cutting-edge computational techniques, we aim to make cultural heritage more accessible, understandable and sustainable.
Objectives
- Develope computational methods for cultural heritage analysis
Apply artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data analytics to study and interpret cultural collections, artworks and artifacts and enhance research methodologies in humanities through computational approaches. - Innovate in digital preservation and conservation
Design and implement computational models and datasets for the long-term preservation of digital and physical cultural assets and explore AI-driven techniques for the restoration and documentation of heritage materials. - Enhance museum collections and visitor experience
Develop interactive and immersive technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), to enrich museum narratives and audience engagement and personalize visitor experiences through data-driven curation and AI-assisted interpretation. - Expand access and democratizing cultural heritage
Make heritage more accessible to diverse audiences, including remote users and underrepresented communities and promote open-access initiatives and interoperable digital infrastructures for cultural data. - Strength interdisciplinary and institutional collaborations
Foster synergies between computational sciences, humanities and museum and heritage professionals and engage in collaborative research projects and exhibition programs with museums, cultural institutions, universities and technology partners. - Address ethical, social, and cultural challenges in cultural heritage
Investigate the social and ethical implications of the use AI applications within cultural heritage and develop responsible AI frameworks for the study and dissemination of museum collections.
By integrating computational innovation with cultural heritage expertise, our group aims to redefine how museums and cultural institutions engage with technology, ensuring that digital transformation benefits society today and in the future.
