CSScorecards

Climate BSC Group: Earth Sciences Software

Both the software and its products are suitable for commercialization to end-users from several sectors that evaluate climate forecasts or impact models. For instance, the result of the assessment of indicators tailored for the agriculture sector can be summarized with a scorecard. This tool becomes especially relevant when several versions of the product delivered in a service need to be evaluated or compared.

CSScorecards is an R-based software package to produce a scorecard visualisation pooling several assessment metrics into a unique image. The package includes a fundamental function that allows adapting its design for the desired number of metrics and cases under evaluation saving the image in png format. For each metric, a colour legend is added to the image to ease the interpretation. The package also includes tailored functions to produce scorecards for the performance of climate forecast systems. Single-system scorecards can be produced, as well as multiple systems, to be able to make a comparison between different systems. Furthermore, functions for the retrieval of pre-computed metrics from netCDF files and the spatial aggregation of the metrics for user-specific regions are part of the package to facilitate its adoption.
