We are particularly interested for this role in the strengths and lived experiences of women and underrepresented groups to help us avoid perpetuating biases and oversights in science and IT research. In instances of equal merit, the incorporation of the under-represented sex will be favoured.
We promote Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, fostering an environment where each and every one of us is appreciated for who we are, regardless of our differences.
If you consider that you do not meet all the requirements, we encourage you to continue applying for the job offer. We value diversity of experiences and skills, and you could bring unique perspectives to our team.
This team, composed of 17 members but steadily growing, performs R&D tasks in the field of Earth Science Model (ESM) performance. The team has different goals such as identify model bottlenecks and research how to remove them, adaptation of parallel codes for top HPC platforms around Europe or the use of novel technologies as new accelerators in a proper way.
There is not a clear cut between computational performance and other technical aspects of ESMs. Knowledge of the physical and numerical processes inside the models are necessary to properly assess and improve them. Therefore, members of the team often support the other groups in the departments with technical challenges in the field.
An important task is the evaluation of impacts that certain model developments have. Techniques such as lossy compression, GPU porting, and mixed precision, can have undesired effects. To ensure the correct behavior, one needs a reliable set of diagnostics, and a generic workflow to be applied after changes to the models. To achieve this, members of the performance team work closely together with teams in the department focussed on the scientific aspects of ESMs.
This vacancy is in the context of a project that aims in fostering the collaboration between European and Japanese research centers. The successful candidate will be working in close collaboration with our partners from Japan and has the opportunity to test and deploy applications on Fugaku, one of the largest and fastest supercomputers in the world.
