Barcelona Supercomputer Centre is actively involved in the International Supercomputing Conference 2013 (ISC13), which began this Sunday in the German city of Leipzig. The meeting started with the celebration of the PRACE Day, in which BSC Operations director and PRACE’s chair of the Board of Directors, Sergi Girona (in the picture), explained the strategy for the future of this European initiative that provides access to HPC infrastructure, services and support to users. BSC Life Sciences Department’s director, Modesto Orozco, also participated in the PRACE Day meeting with the talk “The molecular bases of the transport cycle of APC anti porters”.

On Monday begins the Scientific Conference and the Exhibition, in which BSC announces the deployment of its third prototype, Pedraforca. This will be the first hybrid accelerator cluster composed of ARM Cortex‐A9, NVIDIA® Tesla® K20 GPU and Mellanox QDR InfiniBand, and represents another step forward in the BSC research roadmap on new technologies and innovative architectures towards energy‐efficient HPC.

BSC will be also present in different sessions about exascale research and new architectures. In the BoF “Exascale Research, The European Approach” -organized in collaboration with the two European Exascale projects DEEP and CRESTA- the BSC leader of the Heterogenous Architecture Group, Alex Ramirez, will present the latest results of the Mont-Blanc project.
