(Barcelona, 2015/06/23) - Top researchers from six of the largest supercomputing centers in the world, together in the Joint Laboratory for Extreme-Scale Computing (JLESC), will meet next week in Barcelona to discuss the software challenges for future supercomputers. The workshop will take place from June 29th to July 1st and will be followed by the JLESC Summer School on Storage, IO and Data Analytics (July 2-3).
The workshop will start on Monday afternoon with a session that will include two keynotes about US and European Union strategic governmental programs to boost research and supercomputing, and a third one on the point of view of Riken’s Advanced Institute for Computational Science, in Japan.
The first keynote (Monday, 29 June at 15.10h) will be given by Marc Snir, from Argon National Laboratory (US), who will talk about the progress of the US Department of Energy program to build state-of-the-art supercomputers together with industry. The second one (Monday, 29 June at 16.00h) will be held by Thomas Lippert, Head of Jülich Supercomputing Centre (Germany), who will explain the progress of the Human Brain Project, one of the European Commission research flagships, together with Graphene. Akira Ukawa, deputy director, will present Riken’s perspectives.
The meeting will continue with technical sessions on five main topics: application and numerical libraries, parallel programming, runtime and tools, resilience, Big Data, I/O and visualization and cloud for HPC.
