III Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Symposium

04 Noviembre 2015

Once again, we are glad to invite you to the third edition of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Symposium jointly organized by the Societat Catalana de Biologia and the Bioinformatics Barcelona Association (BIB). The meeting will take place at the Institut d’Estudis Catalans (Carrer del Carme, 47, 08001, Barcelona) on the 18th of December, 2015. The meeting will consist on four sessions, each of them, including a keynote communication and four short talks given by students or postdocs. Keynote talks will tackle different aspects of the Bioinformatics in Catalonia (from upcoming large projects and initiatives, to the challenges of the current interdisciplinarity associated to our field). As the central focus of this symposium are the students and postdocs, we strongly encourage them to submit and present their work, and take this event, as an opportunity to exercise and enhance their communication skills, as well as to widen their perception of nearby activities in bioinformatics.

This year, we also plan to reserve some time for an informal session with users and developers of Galaxy to meet and to discuss all the possibilities that this platform offers to our field, as well as to plan the constitution of the Spanish Galaxy Community. Please, let us know your interest in attending through the registration form.

Visit http://www.iec.cat/jornades/bioinformatica2015.asp to register. Registration is free to all members of the Societat Catalana de Biologia, 20€ for students (undergraduated, PhD candidates and PostDocs under 28 years old) or members of the Association of Institutions Bioinformatics Barcelona, and 40€ for the rest.

Students and postdocs may submit a 250-word abstract (Times New Roman 12 pt, MS Word format) together with the registration form before the 30th of November 2015 to scb@iec.cat. Please include the title, authors and complete address (Institution name, postal address, email address). The abstracts will focus on general aspects of the projects (context, main goals and results), avoiding detailed technical information. The best communication will be given the JdB2015 award.
