Context And Mission

The Earth Sciences (ES) Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS), led by Prof Francisco Doblas-Reyes, performs computational research on global climate, weather, and air quality based on process-based modelling. It also enhances the societal value of the results generated by actively engaging with society, decision-makers, and businesses, as well as exchanging knowledge to develop user-oriented services.
The Earth Sciences (ES) Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS), led by Prof Francisco Doblas-Reyes, performs computational research on global climate, weather, and air quality based on process-based modelling. It also enhances the societal value of the results generated by actively engaging with society, decision-makers, and businesses, as well as exchanging knowledge to develop user-oriented services.

The ES Department is looking for a candidate from any nationality with mixed experience in natural and communication sciences and in dissemination, as well as an interest in the design and creation of graphical material, to carry out communication and dissemination tasks that support stakeholder engagement in the framework of climate and weather modelling projects.

The selected person will closely collaborate with a diverse and international team of researchers, engineers, social scientists, and communication experts within the Department and in the context of EU-funded research projects.

Experience working in interdisciplinary and international research teams and in the design and creation of scientific communication and dissemination materials and content is vital for the position. Previous knowledge on the topic of climate and weather modelling is desired.

Key Duties

  • Lead, manage, and carry out communication, dissemination and user engagement tasks in the context of EU and national-funded research projects.
  • Coordinate with other related European projects and initiatives (both external and in-house) to organise training and dissemination activities/events and liaise with the corresponding communications officers of partners/stakeholders.
  • Design and create graphical material to communicate and disseminate the research done and the results achieved in projects as well as in the ES Department (e.g. explainers, leaflets, booklets, videos, websites, etc.).
  • Help define and implement the communication strategy of the Earth Sciences department.
  • Contribute to mapping the main events and stakeholders related to climate and weather research and widen the network of leading actors.
  • Travel to relevant conferences, events, workshops, and project meetings to present the outcomes of the communication, dissemination and user engagement activities.

Requirements

  • Education
    • MSc in science communication, social sciences or natural sciences.
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Experience in communication strategies and/or stakeholder engagement.
    • More than two years of experience in managing science communication, dissemination and engagement activities in national and EU-funded projects.
    • Experience in graphic design and development of audiovisual materials and content.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Previous knowledge of climate and weather modelling will be valued.
    • Knowledge of impact assessment methods for communication and dissemination activities will be valued.
  • Competences
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish, including technical writing.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment within an interdisciplinary and international team.
    • Self-motivation and enthusiasm about the tasks to be performed with a strong sense of curiosity.
    • Good public speaking skills.
    • Proactivity, creativity, and a high sense of responsibility.
    • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritise them effectively in a dynamic environment.

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department
  • We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
  • Starting date: ASAP
